This is a well-written adventure-mystery story. Eden is a teenager whose parents lived through The Attack, which nearly destroyed America. At the beginning of the story, Eden and her loving parents have moved into a new city. Returning home after he first day at school, she finds her new home in a mess and her parents missing. In a panic, she tracks down a policeman, but when they return to investigate, a man opens the door, claiming to have lived there for years…and it checks out!
It is Eden who doesn’t check out. When authorities try to contact her parents, the phone numbers are either out of service or lead to an established business. Eden is stranded in an unfamiliar town, where no one believes she is who she claims to be due to a lack of evidence. Even her fingerprints only deepen the layers of confusion. She is not even safe in the police station when two people claiming to be her parents come to take this confused girl home.
She is rescued from a dangerous situation by a mysterious boy who is a former fighter in the illegal Underground Fighting scene. He seems willing to help, and she needs his knowledge and fighting skills, but can she trust him? He appears to have his own agenda. Who can be trusted, and who will betray her... and who is she really?
This is a fast-paced dystopian story that keeps your attention and sparks your curiosity. It is the first book in a four-part series. It contains occasional potty language. There is a touch of sensuality with strong desire being expressed and one or two kissing scenes, but nothing more - at least in this book, and it does not play a major role in the story.
