This is the ninth book in the True Crime Junkies series. Book Eight was intended to be the final installment of the series, but the fans demanded more. It is easy to see why, as we follow Andi, Duke, and the rest of the mismatched gang as they produce their true-crime podcast from Alaska.
In Only One More Lie, Andi and the team are asked by Juniper to investigate the double murder of her parents a year ago. Juniper has taken over the management of her parents’ reindeer ranch, but she wants answers. Her parents appeared to have been murdered by a serial killer known as the December Dismemberer, who always kills a victim on December 6th. The community is on edge, and there are only four days left to catch the killer before he claims another victim.
Danger mounts as someone obviously does not want the true-crime podcasters investigating. Cold weather and snowstorms hamper their search for clues. Although the murders were committed at random places around the community, is the killer connected with the reindeer ranch? Were Juniper’s parents actually killed by the December Dismember, or were they only made to look that way? What secret is Juniper hiding from them? The questions keep coming, and the answers seem few as the deadly deadline approaches.
Once again, Christy Barritt has written a great, suspenseful mystery story with awesome characters. It is a good, clean series to read, although I would recommend starting with the first book, He Walks Among Us, and working your way through the series. Each book reveals new insights about specific team members. Everyone has secrets and agendas, but can they work out their differences and remain together for a common goal? This series also offers brief glimpses into the killer's thoughts without revealing his identity, a technique I have not seen Mrs. Barritt use in her other books. It certainly heightens the suspense.
