Tari Selah is running for her life from just about everyone. Forced to escape her home with only her go-bag and no ID after a deadly intruder tries to trap her, she makes her way to the lab where she works as a top research scientist. There, she discovers that a bomb has levelled the lab and that her fellow scientists have been murdered. Not only that, but the story has been spun to make her look responsible for the bomb and the murders. So both mysterious killers and the law are hunting her.
Who wants Tari Selah dead or alive? Is it a biotech firm after her cutting-edge genetic research? The research is ready for clinical trials and could cure many diseases. It could be worth millions or billions of dollars. Is it The Shadows, a group of powerful people seeking governmental control and extremely anti-Christian? As a dedicated Christian, Tari has been working hard to expose this elitist group on her podcasts.
Tari Selah hears God's voice directing and warning her. This is presented in a realistic way, which helps the fast-paced story while still allowing the characters to work through their challenges. She is joined in her evasions by a federal agent, Dalton, from a secret government agency, sent by the agency’s head, who is a friend, and by a mysterious, happy-go-lucky man named Malachi.
Dalton is a non-Christian who doubts Tari’s visions and messages from God. Yet he remains committed to his job of keeping her safe. It isn’t an easy task, even though he comes to believe in Tari’s innocence. If Tari thinks God has told her to do something or go somewhere, she will, whether Dalton thinks it is a good idea or not.
Midnight Shadow is the first book in The Shadows Series. It is a well-written Christian suspense story without, at least in book one, a hint of romance.
